Famous Toilets
Commissioned posters for a personal bathroom.
Prompt
Commissioned to do posters for a bathroom, I wanted to make something that would give people something to look at that makes sense in a bathroom. This led me to make the posters of toilets themselves, but I didn't want them to just be photos of graphic renderings of toilets, no, I wanted them to harken back to famous artists and designers. I searched and looked through many different designers to ask my clients about what artists they'd like to have the toilets based around. After gathering a list of candidates, I went to work finding reference photos for the work to begin.

Research
Some artists and designers were easier to capture than others, as it was fairly simple in finding how I'd rework a Mondrian style poster to form a toilet, however other artists like Picasso were particularly tricky to get a handle on. Nonetheless, I searched through their list and used the photos you see to the left as the main references. Some of the posters drew a lot of similarities while others I just used the general style of the artist or designer as a framework. Overall, I wanted to make it seem as though the artist or designer made the work themselves rather than an imitator.

Designs
In these final pieces, the artist each one was based off is made clear along with the subject being a toilet. For the toilets of Piet Mondrian, the boxes that are colored in surround a grouping of white boxes to show the toilet clearly. Other posters, like the Keith Harring inspired ones, show the characters of the artist or designer interacting with a toilet. Each poster was designed with a color scheme that was similar or the same to the colors used by the corresponding artist or designer so that it felt like their work.
