Mountain Dividers

For this project I wanted to try and make something physical with a graphical look. My mind settled on some sort of divider, and I modeled it off of the best dividers in the world: mountains. After doing some rough math, and making some edits to make the project more doable within my price range, I made a mockup of how I wanted the divider to look once painted. After gathering the paint I needed, I went ahead and used the painter's tape strategy to make sure all of the corners came out very clean. The divider itself is roughly eight feet long.

During one Halloween season I wanted to make something festive. I decided on making a collection of patterns that looked to showcase some black cats partaking in various activities and dressed up as different things. I wanted to keep the cats minimal so that I could use other aspects of their design, such as their eyes or tails, to express their mood. I also incorporated border designs and dividers to add a bit of dynamic motion into the designs, as while they are entertaining on their own I wanted a bit more structure. While each design is intended to be a pattern, they work on their own as well.

Halloween Cat Patterns
Everyday Life

I've always loved taking photos of things that are devoid of people. Something about how the absence of people in photos is really calming to me. Given that I've taken a lot of photos like this, I also wanted to make a book centered around it. In this book is a collection of various objects and places that seemed particularly interesting. They were taken in places I frequented at the time, and I wanted it to be sort of a window into what a person sees along with the random thoughts that come into their mind while doing so. This book catalogues that thought process for me.

Variations of Change

What I wanted to do with this project was showcase, using only type, how many different ways a word can be expressed. I used the words "Edit," "Turn," and "Scale." For each word, I had the design itself reflect the word in some form or manner. Some are conventional interpretations, while others call back to more archaic ways in which the word could be interpreted. Majority of the pieces themselves are just type, however there are a few outliers that utilize other non-type based graphic renderings to showcase the words and what they represent in the best possible manner.

An Everlasting Love

I almost always listen to music while I work, it helps me focus and generally have a better time, usually due to the songs I listen to being very upbeat and happy. Given how big of an influence the music I listen to has on my work due to this, I wanted to try my hand at making a music video. For this piece, I took the song This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) by Natalie Cole and make a lyric video for it. I wanted to use the lyrics themselves to paint a picture for the viewer, so I only used type to form the imagery, creating dynamic pathing for the viewer to look at while listening.

The Odyssey

I have always loved Greek mythology and I wanted to make a project with that in mind. I came to the conclusion of creating a short animation showcasing Odysseus' journey in the classical epic of the Odyssey. For this animation, I kept the figures simple and took out some islands, but overall this is an abridged version of what the Odyssey entails. The animation begins with the crew departing from Troy following the events of the Iliad, which travels first to the island of the cyclopses, second to the lotus eaters, then to Circe, and finally ending in Odysseus' home of Ithaca.

Al Capone Does My Shirts

I remember reading this book back when I was in middle school and thinking how interesting of a concept it is. Now having the skills that I do, I decided to give it a title sequence. Since it is a sequence for the book and not a movie, I decided to use the names of the characters only instead of making up a cast of actors. The book also, while named after him, hardly ever shows Al Capone. Due to this, I felt it would be interesting if the sequence focused on Al Capone, as if to show what he does in the background while the events of the book are carried out.

How to Annoy People in Elevators

For this project I wanted to dive into the absurdity of being annoying in an elevator. With inspiration and research derived from the WikiHow page of the subject, this video showcases the unique situation people can find themselves in when forced into confinement with other strangers and how much power each holds over one another. While some of the things are more obvious, such as pushing all of the buttons or playing loud music, I'm sure there will be quite a few different ways to do this that you haven't thought of. Please be respectful in elevators, this video is comedy based.
