Code Geass Poster Redesigns

Movie Poster Redesigns for the series Code Geass.

Prompt

Similar to most other movie posters nowadays, a particularly favorite movie trilogy of mine, being Code Geass, uses the floating head motif for their posters. While it is true that this is a common trend in today's movie poster landscape, I believe it hurts the movie-going audience as it generally doesn't tell the viewer anything substantial about the movie regarding its plot. This motif is mainly used to sell the actor rather than the movie, as if the only reason a viewer should see the movie is simply because of the actors in it. With the redesigns I made, I wanted to bring the focus back on the plot.

Research

All three movies have a main conflict in them. In the first, its a battle at Narita; in the second, its a battle at Tokyo that is set off due to a tragedy; the third is a battle around Mt. Fuji. Each of these battles are major turning points in the plot and bring about three key moments in the world's history: the legitimization of the main character's organization, the fall of the main character's friendship with his best friend, and the fate of the world itself. Given how pivotal these events are, I focused the posters around telling these plot points through a motif not often used in movie posters.

Redesigns

For the posters, I utilized the image of the main figure in the foreground of each original poster. I then made each figure a silhouette and used them as a window to showcase the major event of each movie. I kept the same title, color, and Roman numerals used in the original, however I opted to also add the pseudo logo of the series as something for each silhouette to stand on. The background was turned into a gradient that goes from an ivory white to a true white so that a nice shift in contrast would be made. Each poster also features a major factor in each conflict aside from the setting.
